The first thing that I heard after leaving the theater for X-Men Apocalypse was , “Wow that was a really good movie. Wasn't that better than the new Iron Man movie?”. Now from this quote you can conclude two things. The first is that this person is not fully immersed into the movie business, but a normal movie goer. This is the true demographic of Hollywood and you should keep that in mind. The second thing you get from the quote is the question, was X-Men Apocalypse better than Captain America: Civil War? The simple answer is yes.
While Captain America: Civil War was a good pay off for fans who had been waiting and asking for that movie, X-Men Apocalypse did what all great media does. In layman's terms it gave the audience what they wanted and great additions that they didn't know they wanted.
Not only are your favorites back from X-Men: Days of Future Past, like the infamous Quicksilver scene, but more than you could ask for. With an opening scene that will stay with you after the theater lights turn back on, to a story with actual emotional heft that will make you cry. Yes I did tear up in the theater leave me alone.
Back to the initial conversation though, why would reviews say this is a bad movie? The simple answer lies with Fox's advertisement department. They started press screenings when Captain America: Civil War was just initially hitting theaters. They tried to do this to get people to talk about their movie instead of that one. The only problem with this plan is the alliances people have devoted themselves to already. There is an undying allegiance to Marvel Disney that seems unbreakable. Even though this is actually the superior film.
It must be said that this is definitely the best movie to come out this summer. For me the Summer season is only just beginning, but it will be hard to overthrow this as the most exciting movie of the summer.
