The first Jack Reacher movie was very good due to its smaller scope and focus on storytelling. With a new entry into the series, I was hoping that the sequel would retain some of its predecessor's qualities that I loved so much. To my surprise, it maintained the limited scope but it did not help this movie in any way.
There are a slew of reasons why this movie falls short as a sequel, and a movie in general, but the main problem lies with the script. The dialogue is cliche and uninspired with a boring plot that belongs in a B movie. This sequel was supposed to deliver on the continuation of the legend of Jack Reacher, but it all falls short.
Instead of continuing the adventures of Jack Reacher, this movie decided that he needed more secondary characters to flesh out the story. The only flaw with this idea is that it detracts from the overall time we get to spend with the main character doing what we want to see him do, beat people up.
The movie feels like it didn't know what to do next after the first one. So it just decided to throw Jack into too many different situations not giving each one enough screen time. All of them are half baked and feel like annoyances instead of character development.
What could have been a compelling continuation of a bright future for this series has been crushed by this movies' lack of imagination to push the envelope with a GLOBAL MOVIE STAR in it.
