Action Movie With No Action

After proving that The Fifth Element was a fluke with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, director Luc Besson continues his spiral into mediocrity. As a shell of his former creative self, Besson clings onto a genre that initially granted him success and falls flat again. His latest action flick stars a female assassin and reaches a new low with its lack of substance. It's honestly a shame that the movie had to be so bad since the trailer was actually pretty good.

Anna is impossible to enjoy because of its dialogue. Actors would say things that stuck out like a sore thumb, making me feel like I was watching someone's first film. One scene had two characters at an indoor party and one of them tells the other, "Come in, come in," which didn't make sense. This kind of scenario can get annoying, but nothing was more jarring than how the story was constructed.

There are three separate time jumps in the first half of the movie. The first jump takes place five years into the future in order to give the audience context for several characters. The second jump is to show the back story of
the protagonist while the third jump brings it all together in the present. The entire movie is structured around these jumps to convey the relationships the characters have with one another. It's as though the viewer is being ping-ponged around through time with no pay-off of making the plot more interesting.

Anna is boring and a chore to watch. It's billed as an action movie but doesn't have any for the first half. There is probably no real reason to watch this movie in the theater. Save your money and watch anything else. I hear they are re-releasing Avengers: Endgame.
2/10
Are these movies just an excuse for Besson to interact with young women?
